Lead Singer of Pierce the Veil
So, this may seem pretty random to post music on a site about graphic design, but after a lot of experimenting with music I have found the music that promotes my designing. Pierce the Veil was recently introduced to me by a friend, and I fell in love with the music. She had mentioned to me previously that she had been trying for years to get me to listen to this band, but I was in a pretty strong country music phase. So out of curiosity I started listening to their latest album while I was working on design ideas. immediately, I saw a difference between my old music and my new music.
Suddenly, I was exploding with ideas and had to start sketching ideas for everything in my sketchbooks. Notice sketchbooks is plural. I have four different books that I use at different times, but you can always count on me having one. I think the two most important steps to getting inspired to design is the music and the sketchbook.
The music promotes a creative environment while the sketchbook enables you to put your billions of thoughts on paper. I have learned over the years to sketch out every idea no matter how “dumb” I thought it was at that point in time. Looking back at my sketch books I am happy I did because I have started building new ideas off of old ones. Also, I realized that I put everything in the sketch book as soon as possible so I don’t forget anything. I can’t count how many times I have had a brilliant idea, but I waited too long to sketch it out. So when I finally did, I had lost it. A brain fart some call it, but I call it struggle busing. Yep, I have struggle bus moments a lot, but I think it is also part of my process…So I will include a few links to some of my favorite Pierce the Veil songs I love to listen to while designing. Let me know if they work for you. Also, if you have any suggestions I am open to trying everything at least once!
